About The Film

Synopsis

In a rural town on a reservation, a young girl Dakota, age 18, is walking through her neighborhood back home. She kicks rocks as she walks and notices people hanging  papers on telephone poles. When she arrives at her house, she hears many voices through the door. She opens the front door to see many members of her family having a discussion.

Dakota listens while her family talks but is bothered by what they are saying. She interrupts the conversation with comments of disagreement while her mother declares otherwise. An argument is formed and Dakota is yelling at her family for trying to trust the authorities. Comments about Dakota’s older sister continue until Dakota cries out and immediately runs out of the house.

Dakota stops in her tracks when she notices a missing person paper of her older sister she remembers putting up. Tears form at the edge of her eyes and she silently cries while looking at her sister. Suddenly, a text message from her mom appears on Dakota’s phone, telling her they are going to the police station. Dakota pauses and talks to her sister’s picture. She then runs straight home to her room where she paints her hand red and places her mouth across her mouth in front of the mirror.
